ISAIAH 6: 6 (NIV) - “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I say, “Here am I. Send Me!”
When I look back on something that I have volunteered for, or some work that I am doing for God’s church, I am reminded about this passage from Isaiah. There have been times that I responded to a need that presented itself after I have been praying to God to show me how I could be more open to His calling. This is truly one of those “Here I am” opportunities to serve. In other words, looking for something to be involved in, and to have God show us the need, and us being ready to
serve, and raising our hand and saying, “I can do that”. This is how I got involved in Angel Food Ministry. It was something that God showed me how I could serve in this ministry.
And then there are the times we just find ourselves doing something, or
being involved with a ministry, without even knowing that God asked, or even showed us the way. We all of a sudden stop and ask ourselves how we ever got involved with this, or why we started becoming involved with this group or that project. This is one of those opportunities that God just throws out on the table, and we find ourselves picking up the “call”. In other words, “I didn’t even know I was doing that”. This was how I found myself so involved with youth. What I thought was just a part-time, substitute teaching job developed into a love for teens. One of my Vice Principals said that is has become a ministry for me. That’s funny. I didn’t even hear God ask me to do anything. He just took what I was doing and used it for His glory.
To love God, to follow Jesus, to have faith in our Lord means we will do anything we can to serve Him. It may not be comfortable. It might not be easy. It may mean a sacrifice for us. But even if we knew this beforehand, I would hope each of us would still say, “Here am I. Send me”.
