In my Bible reading from the past week I ran across this passage from John 4. It says "24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth." In the year of high-octane politics and misplaced priorities that follow, I thought this was a great passage upon which to reflect and meditate. What does Jesus mean here?

I think this passage is all about "reality," something we won't hear or see very clearly in the political fray. God understands that we will be told daily about the "realities" of the stock market, the presidential campaign and the new cell phone we've "just got to have." But when we look past the words to the actual facts, what we find is something far less impressive that what has been "advertised." That's the thing with worldly "stuff." They seldom deliver the good things they promise.

God, on the other hand, is Spirit. He is present but not seen. His words are pure truth but He doesn't pummel us with them. We are called to seek His face. We are asked to listen for His voice. We "glorify" God by heeding these reminders of truth that is both real and pure.

So, don't talk to me about perception being everything. Truth is everything. Perception is good people buying into the lies of the evil one. Perception is something we must each examine and separate it from the real and true things in life. I know it's hard because it isn't the usual way of doing life. But doing the right thing is usually not easy. But it is the thing that will benefit your life and your Church. And is is the foundation for worship of God.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday so we con come together and worship God, "in Spirit and truth."

In Christ's Love, Randy
